Portacabin or Block Room? Choosing the Right Option in Bahrain
Need an extra room for an office, guard house, storage or rooftop space? Compare a steel-frame sandwich panel cabin with a traditional block-built room.

Speed
A sandwich panel cabin is built in the workshop and assembled on site, so it is usually ready much faster than a block room, which needs foundations, blockwork, plastering and painting on site.
Weight – important on rooftops
Sandwich panel cabins are far lighter than block walls. On a rooftop this matters: the existing structure may not be designed for the load of new blockwork. Always check with a structural engineer before adding any room on a roof.
Insulation and comfort
Sandwich panels have an insulating core (such as PU foam or rock wool) between two steel sheets. With the right panel thickness and a good AC unit, a cabin stays comfortable in Bahrain’s summer.
Moving or removing it later
A cabin can be dismantled and moved to another site, which suits construction site offices, temporary guard rooms and rented properties. A block room is permanent.
When a block room is the better choice
- You want a permanent extension that looks like the rest of the building.
- You need very high sound insulation or fire rating.
- The structure below is designed for it and time is not a concern.
Approvals
Rules for adding structures depend on the property and its location. Check with your municipality or building owner before you start, whichever option you choose.
